Selling the Mustang to pay for the Jag’s eventual revival. It’s been fun times but the insurance expense and fuel economy for a 1 mile commute is making less and less sense. Better to get rid of an extra car, a signature loan payment, and an insurance payment all at the same time. CL ad follows:
Selling my 1986 fox body Mustang. Runs and drives great, I’ve been daily driving it since spring. Has a 3.8 liter throttle-body injected V6. Was an automatic car, swapped out a world-class T5 out of a later model Mustang when the automatic started giving me problems. Now has a 5 speed, good clutch, and a newer-style more reliable starter motor. New front bearings and front brake rotors, new front shock mounts, basic safety stuff has been gone through. The problematic emissions garbage has been removed and a brand new serpentine belt installed. Paint is just white primer over the previous yellow paint job. Body is fairly straight and has no structural rust. Drives fine, gets 17mpg around the city, probably more on the highway thanks to the 5-speed overdrive transmission. A/C works. Needs a heater core and an inner tie rod on the passenger side but can be driven fine as-is. Tires have plenty of tread and are on period-correct American Racing five-spoke wheels.
Unknown odometer reading. Rebuilt title due to hail damage in the early 90s.
Asking $1800.

Do you have a loan on a 30 year old v6 Mustang?

Nah. I got a signature loan to cover part of the Miata’s purchase price and if I sell the Mustang I should be able to pay that off and have one less monthly payment.

Nice pics! A few more would be nice. Might want to change the line about the odometer. Even if it’s faulty, you can mention how many miles it reads, so that buyers can get a sense of at least how many miles could be on it (and feel free to include a comment on your best guess of what it should read).
Maybe tuck those wires under the dash too, if you can. Don’t hide electrical problems, but if the repairs are good, then there’s no need to make someone worry.

IMO $1,800 is way too CP, but I guess your relying on the buyer negotiating down.
Or you live somewhere with Seattle like cost of living lol.

That’s actually where the wires are supposed to go as far as I can tell. There’s nowhere else to tuck them. I think there’s a scuttle panel that’s supposed to go there but I’m not sure.

Nah I just have absolutely no idea what the market value of these things is. I’ve had several people tell me they’d pay $2000 if they had room for it, and other people say it isn’t worth $400. There isn’t shit for notchbacks on CL around here and what few I can find in Houston are listed at $3000 for a ratty V8.

Yeah, there’s a panel that goes there. I don’t think I’d buy one just to help sell the car, though. I’d rather just look for a way to zip-tie them up so that those bright colors are less noticeable.

Spray paint them all black. There isn’t really anything further “up”, they’re nestled in as close to the HVAC box as they can go without cutting some plastic supports.

True, plus the manual might add a significant amount to the value. Since it seems the vast majority of Fox Bodys are autos.

I dunno. Hurr durr auto faster in the quarter mile but the manual means it has swappable bell housings. I could get a chevy bell housing and dump a 350 in here for next to nothing and make more power than a stock 5.0. Or get a 5.0 bell housing and dump in a 5.0 for some reason.

I had to look up what a signature loan was. I thought at first you had a loan for the Mustang; I was going to say, never would “Does Dumb Stuff so You Don’t Have To” be more true.

If it were my choice, I’d choose the Jag over the Mustang too.

You should probably take the stupid Japanese letters off the door before you try and sell it.

I paid $700 for my 86 Notch and sold it for $1100 in worse condition then I bought it in...
a 2.3 Notch isn’t worth much, especially one that has been through an Initial D wet dream....
If you lived closer I would make an offer though, I miss mine.

Mine’s a 3.8. I’m considering painting over the katakana.

what I would do is
clean up the black paint around the bumpers and the loose wires in the interior.

There’s supposed to be a kick panel over a majority of those wires. Without it they just kind of... sit there.

Shoot. I don’t think that’s doable from Ohio.
